Who will guard the (Catholic) guardians?

A few weeks ago, referring to the exploding sex abuse scandal in the Catholic Church in Chile, I wrote: The Catholic Church, as an institution, and its bishops acting as a collective, have lied, are lying, and will continue to lie to the people of God about this problem.  They have no interest whatsoever in resolving it – only in protecting their own power, and the institution of the Church as a whole, and its power and prestige in society.  They do not care about the individuals involved, or the victims . . . or the good clergy who have

The Swamp, exposed. Every US voter needs to see this!

A new TV series, “The Swamp” – on Facebook, of all places – purports to document the shady backroom deals that infest politics and politicians in Washington D.C.  The Federalist explains. Every grassroots political activist knows something is deeply wrong in Washington, D.C. No matter how hard we work to send good people to Congress, the majority of them go native upon arrival, forgetting their campaign rhetoric and falling in line with the political establishment. The few who retain their principles often seem sidelined and ineffective. Meanwhile, the legislative process is an unfunny joke: the Republican Congress can’t manage to

I think I’m in the wrong line of work

I’d do better working in New Jersey’s ports than I would writing books – by more than an order of magnitude! ON THE WATERFRONT, there’s a longshoreman on the books who washes trucks. He gets paid $465,981 a year. To wash trucks. Fired when his bosses discovered he wasn’t actually showing up when he claimed to be working, he nevertheless regained his job—after an arbitrator concluded it was not unusual in the industry for employees to be paid “without being expected to work all the hours for which they are being paid.” . . . Part of the reason for

YGTBSM!!!

(For those who don’t know the acronym, see here.) I thought radical feminism had long since jumped the shark.  Now it looks like they’re jumping jellyfish, crustaceans and seaweed for good measure. If you’re a dog owner, maybe, just maybe, a couple of things that come to mind when you take ‘ol Spot to the dog park are rape culture and non-heterosexual “performativity.” What’s that? You don’t consider such things when you’re walking the pup? No worries, then. The Portland Ungendering Research Initiative’s Helen Wilson is here to clue you in. Her paper, “Human reactions to rape culture and queer

The price of political correctness – vulnerable children

I’m doing a slow burn after reading this report from Pennsylvania. A woman’s report of a man taking pictures of her child inside a Montgomery County Starbucks has sparked a police investigation. The woman, who did not want to be identified, said she was inside the Starbucks in East Norriton Township Tuesday when she spotted a man taking pictures of her child. The woman spoke to a Starbucks employee about it but was told they couldn’t ask the man to leave, according to Natalie Mittica, who shared the woman’s Facebook post about the incident. “The barista said, ‘I’m sorry, he’s

No, Starbucks, that’s not true for anyone, not even you

I note that Starbucks, as part of its drive towards political correctness, has put out a training workbook for its staff (link is to an Adobe Acrobat document in .PDF format).  It includes this drivel (click the image for a larger view): There is no such thing as “your” truth or “other people’s” truth.  There is only TRUTH, and that word has meaning.  Here are a couple of definitions: The truth about something is all the facts about it, rather than things that are imagined or invented. Synonyms: reality, fact(s), real life, actuality.  (Collins) (1) : the body of real things,

Why no prosecutions?

I’ve been angered to read two recent news reports. Woman who falsely accused 49ers player of domestic violence likely to avoid charges “We don’t charge domestic violence victims who falsely recant. We empathize with them, we support them, and we advocate for them,” the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement to the news outlet. Woman’s bogus rape claim against Texas trooper wasn’t a crime, DA says Prosecutors have decided not to file criminal charges against a Grapevine woman who falsely claimed that she was sexually assaulted by a state trooper last weekend. . . . The

It seems it really IS risky to do business with Intuit!

Yesterday I noted that “Clearly, you do business with Intuit (Quickbooks, TurboTax, etc.) at your own risk“.  This followed Intuit’s cancellation of its contract with Gunsite Academy, and its deliberate withholding of funds from that institution, returning them to its customers rather than paying the debts incurred at Gunsite by those customers. It seems they’re at it again – this time to the tune of $150,000 – for a non-firearms transaction! On May 11th, Lone Wolf made two of what would be three transfers to Flint River. On May 14th they completed the third transfer. The transfers were made through

Clearly, you do business with Intuit (Quickbooks, TurboTax, etc.) at your own risk

Intuit – owners of Quickbooks, TurboTax and other widely used financial software products, as well as a provider of financial services such as credit card payment processing – has just dumped one of its customers firmly in the dwang, for politically correct – not legal – reasons. A couple of months ago Gunsite decided to make a change to a new credit card processor, QuickBooks. It seemed to be a wise business choice at the time and may have been, had Intuit not chosen to go the way they did. . . . Then, a week ago – May 11th,

The bleeding never ends for the Catholic Church

I’m sickened, disgusted, outraged and infuriated to read of the latest child sex abuse crisis involving clergy of the Catholic Church. Every Chilean bishop offered to resign Friday over a sex abuse and cover-up scandal, in the biggest shakeup ever in the Catholic Church’s long-running abuse saga. . . . It marked the first known time in history that an entire national bishops conference had offered to resign en masse over scandal, and laid bare the devastation that the abuse crisis has caused the Catholic Church in Chile and beyond. Calls had mounted for the resignations after details emerged of
